A sensible five-slot loadout

  1. Boots of Sprinting — the one you find first, in an early cave chest, and the one you never take off.
  2. Paraglider (later the upgraded glider, and the Desert Glider from 0.15) — fall damage is the most common early death.
  3. Gecko Gloves — climbing surfaces removes most of the reason to pillar-jump.
  4. Stone of Regeneration — 1 HP every 4 seconds. Against a 100-point health bar this is slow; it is still free healing between fights.
  5. Situational fifth — Scuba Helmet for underwater work, Cube of Curing before the Thorn Blade enemies, Magnet while strip-mining, Jet Boots when you are building tall.

Two trinkets are jokes with teeth. Cosmic Radiation "may cause bitflips" and Curse of the Core "may cause pain and suffering" — the wiki does not document numbers for either, and we are not going to invent any. The Jumping Bean is the honest trade in the list: +20% melee damage "with a catch".

The freezing-immunity trinket you will want before the snow dungeon is the Frozen Heart, crafted from ice cap mushrooms, cobalt and a heart beet; it is what the "Cold Hearted" achievement is asking for. See the achievement list and the vertical travel guide.
